X-Ray Optics Instrumentation Development Engineer / Scientist
Summary
Title:X-Ray Optics Instrumentation Development Engineer / Scientist
ID:1047
Department:Development
Description
INCOM Inc., headquartered in Charlton, Massachusetts (USA), seeks an individual with both practical hands on experience and appropriate technical understanding to help develop advanced X-ray optics based upon glass capillary technology.  Incom Inc. and Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) are collaborating on the development of a next generation X-ray spectrometer with enhanced energy resolution and a high collection and detection efficiency. An essential development task for this project is to develop glass capillaries capable of reflecting and collimating X-rays, transmitting X-rays from a source region to a remote detector by total internal reflection. The Research Engineer will be a key contributor to a team that will model the X-ray transmission, fabricate the capillaries, test the transmission effectiveness and build a complete detection system.

We are seeking individuals with the required scientific background, technical capabilities and hands on experience to understand the goals and objectives of the collaboration, to help develop advanced glass capillary X-ray optics and other glass capillary based products.  The Research Engineer will be a key contributor to a team that will model the X-ray transmission, fabricate the capillaries, test the transmission effectiveness and build a complete detection system.

Responsibilities
The Development Engineer / Scientist, X-ray Optics will work in a highly collaborative R&D and manufacturing environment to develop methods to produce glass microcapillary array products.  The successful candidate must be able to understand program objectives and be able to work independently to design and implement hands-on experiments.   This includes running development tests to produce prototype samples and refining a process that can be handed off to production.  Where necessary the candidate will specify, design and implement new equipment and R&D processes.
