Description

Incom, Inc. is seeking an R&D Technician professional, with the required background, and hands on experience to contribute to the success of our Photodetector and Microchannel Plate (“MCP”) technology. Our R&D Technician provides support to the R&D Group in the development of MCPs and MCP photodetector technology. Reporting to the Sr. Measurement and Testing Scientist, the Technician’s primary role is in the testing and measurement of these devices to improve and enable the technology for commercialization.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform measurements of quantities including: gain, resistance, count rates and quantum efficiency, from devices such as microchannel plates or photodetectors, often in a cleanroom environment, and analyze the results.
  • Use high voltage, compressed gases, high vacuum systems, charge sensitive amplifiers, microscopes and oscilloscopes to make the measurements.
  • Develop an expertise in how microchannel plates are manufactured and functionalized in order to troubleshoot issues and provide feedback to the manufacturing process.
  • Assist on other tasks such as: preparation of special purpose tests, analysis and reports of all tests, and material testing.
  • Work with team members to diagnose process, electrical and mechanical problems, as well as improve processes, setups and equipment.
  • Support the fabrication of tooling and test fixturing for tests of new products or processes.
  • Perform preventative and remedial equipment maintenance and repair, working with internal or external sources to resolve technical issues with process and equipment. Source and detail purchase requirements for devices, equipment upgrades and support.
  • Coordinate with other team members or internal departments to ship parts or samples.
  • Contribute to the creation of Job Breakdown sheets and the training of manufacturing personnel in the transfer of operations from R&D to Manufacturing.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of working area, laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Comply with established safety guidelines for handling of hazardous materials with the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Follow corporate guidelines relating to proprietary and confidential information.

 

Qualifications

  • BA or BS Degree in a Science field required - Physics degree strongly preferred. Electrical Engineering degree also considered. Other Science disciplines considered if experience below is also evident.
  • Minimum 1 year of related laboratory experience. Research group environment preferred. Experience credit may be considered for related academic labs and / or University Co-Op / Internship experiences.
  • Experience in the use of high voltage, compressed gases, high vacuum systems, charge sensitive amplifiers, microscopes and oscilloscopes required.
  • Experience performing data analysis and writing code using tools such as Excel, IDL, MatLab or Python required.
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment, meeting deadlines on time and under pressure.
  • Strong passion for detail, excellent process management skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with laboratory and cleanroom practices.
  • Fixture design and/or AutoCAD / Solidworks modeling is desirable.
  • Proven team player with excellent people skills, ability to collaborate and work as part of a team and ensure that these efforts are carried out in compliance with relevant ESH policies of the Laboratory.
  • Visual acuity to written and computer screen materials as well as product details, manual coordination and dexterity in the operation of computer equipment, precision measuring devices and various tools.
  • Manual dexterity to work with fragile products.
  • Ability to occasionally move up to 40 lbs over short distances.
  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS office suite (PowerPoint, Word and Excel)
  • English fluency in speaking, comprehension, reading and writing for the effective performance of the position.
