Incom is seeking an Optical Polishing Technician with the required background, and hands on experience to provide production support for both existing and new products and work collaboratively with our research and manufacturing divisions. Responsibilities

  • Operates finishing equipment for glass grinding and polishing as well as the inspection tools associated with those processes.
  • Operates other automated and non-automated such as cut-off, ID and band saws, as well as assists with wiresaw, CNC forming, grinding and polishing operations to ensure part quality.
  • Performs cleaning, inspecting, and packaging operations for microcapillary array products in a lab and cleanroom environment.
  • Performs in-process inspection of polished glass components to reduce reworks due to scratches.
  • Performs basic equipment maintenance and repair of R&D and manufacturing equipment utilized in the operation, working with internal or external sources to troubleshoot technical issues with process and equipment.
  • Coordinates with other departments, including Sales and Logistics, to ship samples/orders.
  • Completes inspection documents for delivery with the product to customers.
  • Under the direction of the Pilot Production Manager, contributes to the development of written process work instructions, including drafting and editing, to be utilized in the transfer of operations from R&D to Manufacturing.
  • Acts as a technical liaison between R&D, pilot production team and the manufacturing plant operations on assigned processes and tasks.
  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of working area, laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Follows safety guidelines for handling materials with the use of required personal protective equipment.
  • Follows corporate guidelines relating to proprietary and confidential information.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required. AS in Science or related technical field such as materials, mechanical or manufacturing technology.


Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of related laboratory experience in a science-related industry / field. Manufacturing R&D environment experience a plus. Experience in a cleanroom work environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of chemistry, mathematics and GD&T commensurate with the effective performance of this position.
  • Ability to and experience in reading technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Proficiency working with microscopes for measurements and visual surface inspection.
  • Proficiency in using metrology equipment.
  • Experience with semiconductor polishing, cleaning using acidic and alkaline chemicals a plus.
  • Fixture design and/or AutoCAD / Solidworks modeling a plus.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office suite (Word/Excel)
  • Demonstrated success working in a collaborative team.
  • Manual dexterity including simple grasping and fine manipulation to work with fragile products, .
  • Visual acuity to written and computer screen materials as well as product details, manual coordination and dexterity in the operation of computer equipment, precision measuring devices and various tools.
  • Ability to occasionally carry, move or lift up to 50lbs over short distances.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • English fluency in speaking, comprehension, reading and writing for the effective performance of the position.
